Welcome to the August update of the exceptional Crysis Modification the “Petrograd Project“, developed by the Space Cowboys Studio under the guidance of Game Designer Roy Shapira, The team has been working relentlessly on all aspects of the game, creating a Triple-A quality world, creating new assets every day, new features, and always keeping the high standard. Today we bring to you a glimps into the development of the project.

New Finished Assets

The Space Cowboys Studio has grown exponentially over the past few months, and is working at an astonishing rate outputting assets on a daily basis all passing through rigorous pipeline to ensure the top quality of this project. the following are few of the excellent works of the team for your viewing pleasure.

Finished Enemy Combatant

The Petrograd area will be populated mostly by elite soldier forces, talented team member Anton Kozlov has finished the enemy soldier model, he is modular and has many variations, shown below are several examples of the enemy variationts.

Finished Russian URAL Truck Model

The URAL is a troop transporter used for both on and off road travel, it carries over 20 soldiers, and can reach almost anywhere. The Track was created by talented team member Sean Kelly. who is now texturing it.

Finished Residential Building Model

Petrograd city has many types of buildings both historical and modern, many of them will be complete from the outside and within, talented team member our newly appointed Lead Art Chris Schweiger has created yet another authentic Ukranian Builidng model

Finished Unique Props

Petrograd will be filled with many different objects, most will be fully functional, like in real life.
today we’ll feature 2 new works by new talented team member 3D Modeler Christian Marzy the PDA, and the Microwave.

Rural Environment

Team member and newly appointed Lead level designer Rex Mcnish, has been working hard to create a vast array of vegetation, from tall trees, to ferns to blades of grass and some excellent ground textures, he has also created the wonderful rural forest environment that will surround Petrograd City, some of his exceptional work is shown below.

City Environment

Team member Level Designer Sven Kiesser, has been working hard to create to create one of the unique city environments in the center of Petrograd, with an amazing eye for detail and perfectly executed creepy atmosphere.

New Wallpapers

Team member newly assinged Producer Benjamin Thatcher has created a couple Wallpaper quality screenshot, they are un-tampered in any way and are shown as is from the engine.

Welcome to this months update of the exceptional Crysis Modification Petrograd, developed by the Space Cowboys Team under the guidance of Game Designer and Team Lead Roy Shapira, it has been a while since their last update for they have worked hard to get ready for the next gameplay trailer coming up in the following months. your comments are important to us so please feel free to tell us what you think.

New Character Assets

There is a slew of new assets being created on a daily basis, each pass a strict pipeline of approvals to ensure the excellent quality is maintained, today we’ll bring to you several of the highlighted assets that where created in the past couple of months.

Final First Person Model

Today we bring to you the final First person model that will be used for the 3rd person cutscenes, and will allow the player to see his legs. The First person Model was created (modeled and textured) by talented team member Anton Kozlov, and is now being animated by team member Lead Animator Chris Lau.

Work in Progress (WIP) Enemy Combatant Model

The Enemy will have many variants of soldiers, with an obvious difficulty level, from Grunt, to veteran and elite soldiers, today we’ll show the new improved grunt variants, which will make the mass of the enemy army. The Enemy Combatant Model was created by talented team member Anton Kozlov who is now texturing this excellent model.

New Vehicle Asset

Petrograd will have many different vehicles, some will even be drivable both by AI and the player. today we’ll bring 3 of the vehicles that you could find in Petrograd .

Finished Russian Jeep Model

Petrograd City is located in the great Russian area, and thus will require some Russian made transportation, the military Russian jeep (UAZ) although ugly in design is very strong and sturdy both on and off road.  The Jeep was created (both modeled and textured) by talented team member Sean Kelly. and it is now being imported into the engine by team member Jack Hammersmith and will be drivable both by the player and the AI.

WIP Russian Truck Model

The URAL is a troop transporter used for both on and off road travel, it carries over 20 soldiers, and can reach almost anywhere. The Track was created by talented team member Sean Kelly. who is now texturing it.

Finished Tracktor Model

The rural area of Petrograd will have working vehicles as well, today we’ll bring the Tractor, its
usually used by farmers, but the player can find new duties for it once he jumps into the seat. The tractor was created by team member Jon Stoner, and it is now being imported into the engine by team member Jack Hammersmith who will make sure it will be drivable both by the player and the AI.

The Space Cowboys Team is hard at work to create all kinds of different architectures to make Petrograd city as immersive and realistic as possible.

Petrograd city has many types of buildings both historical and modern, many of them will be complete from the outside and within, so the player can explore the different apartments and even scope the area from the roof-top, two buildings are shown in this update, they where created by talented team member Chris Schweiger who is now texturing them.

The Space Cowboys Team is hard at work to create the most wonderful and detailed levels, to help immerse the player into the thrilling story and gameplay. Today the team features some of their new environments for your viewing pleasures.

WIP Bars interiors

There are few Bars around in Petrograd some will be used as base of operations and place where you can “rest” between missions, others will have different uses, today we’ll showcase few of them, team member lead level designer Benjamin Thatcher, new team member level designer Gustav Engman and new team member – level designer Sven Kiesser have created the bars shown below.

WIP City Environment

Team member level designer Hendrik Lenz, new team member level designer Sven Kiesser, and new team member level designer Gustav Engman have created some excellent city environments, streets, allies, and the grand plaza, all featured below.

Welcome to this months update of the extraordinary Crysis Modification Petrograd; in today’s update you will get a glimpse into the development of the project, featuring new character assets, weapons, vehicles, city buildings, and new environments.

New Character Assets

Petrograd will include many Non-Player Characters, each with their own personality and skills giving an immersive narrative experience, today the team showcases some of the new characters.

Final First Person Legs Asset
In the previous update the Space Cowboys showed the First person Arms, today they present the First person legs, featuring interactive equipment patches, and sidearm holster, that will animate at any time the player will perform the actions and look down. The Legs where created (modeled and textured) by talented team member Anton Kozlov, and are now being animated by team member Chris Lau.

WIP Female Model
No Story is complete without some female characters, her specific role will be kept as a surprise. shown below are the WIP female model created by new team member Sean Kelly, who is now finishing the model and will be texturing it shortly.

New Weapons Assets

Petrograd has a large variety of weapons for all the different purposes, from long range sniper rifles to close quarters auto shotguns, today the team features one of the deadliest weapons – the Browning M2 0.50 caliber machine guns.

WIP Browning M2 0.50 Cal Heavy Machine Gun Model
The Browning M2 is a massive beast of a weapon, usually mounted on vehicles or stationary gunner posts, it has powerful 0.50 caliber slugs that can penetrate a tank’s hall up to 3km away!. It is belt fed and has a slow rate of fire. the model has been created by team member Addison Gallagher, and will be textured shortly.

New Vehicle Asset

Petrograd will have many different vehicles, some will even be drivable. today the team showcase one of these drivable Russian Jeeps.

The now inactive Central Bus-Station was a humming comers hub in Petrograd city, fairing hundreds of people daily. Team member Ben Wright has created the model, and is now working hard to texture it.

First Person Arms Finished Model

The First Person Arms will include a fully functioning PDA that will integrate to the GUI, Talented team member – 3D Artist Anton Kozlov has been hard at work to create the Protagonist’s arms. Shown below are the finished First Persons hands, Textured and ready for rigging, team member – Lead Animator Chris Lau is now rigging and animating them.

WIP PK Machine gun (PKM) Model

The PK is a 7.62 mm belt fed general purpose machine gun (SAW) designed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s, and is currently in production in Russia. The PK machine gun can be used as a light anti-aircraft weapon when it is put on an AA mount. The PK is feeds from the right and ejects its spent cases via an ejection port on the left side of the weapon, as opposed to the right side ejection port seen in most western machine guns. Shown below are WIP models created by talented team member – 3D Artist Mark Ashton who is now texturing the weapon.

MK23 Pistols Laser and Flashlight attachment WIP Model

The HK MK23 pistol has a unique laser and flashlight attachment it is modeled by talented team member – 3D Artist Mayan Ariel who is now texturing it to fit perfectly with the pistol.

Welcome everyone to today’s update on the Petrograd Project, The Space Cowboys Development Team has never stopped progressing, knowing full well that our real goal is a full top quality game, today we’ll show some of the progress, with assets, and show an interview with Behind the Scenes Modders

Shown below are the updated First Person hands, with first coat of Texture, they are a long way from being ready, but already are taking shape to look amazing!

The HK MK23 mod .0 is a 0.45 caliber pistol. is a perfect fit for our protagonist. Team member – 3D Artist AJhas created the model, and talented team member – 3D Artist Mayan Ariel has textured the excellent model, and its various attachments.

The Petrograd city will include many types of buildings the team’s talented modelers have been hard at work creating new buildings and importing them into the engine on daily basis, Shown below are new Buildings created and textured by talented team member – 3D Artist Ben Wright who is now working on more city props.

Last Update the Space Cowboys Team has released the debut teaser trailer its goal was to show the industry what we have been working on for the past months, the direction of the game, and to get a sence of the community reaction. safe to say that the reaction suppressed any of our expectations.

First Teaser Trailer Published! Petrograd: an action-thriller first person shooter. Where eerie atmosphere and immersive environments are just the beginning.

General News
The entire Team has spent countless hours and late nights to reach this milestone – a full trailer, using many of the team’s custom assets. Our main goal is to create a working prototype; this will entail creating an entire set of assets including models, particles, music, and sound effects. The team is highly motivated and very professional, producing top quality work on a consistent basis; team leader and Game DirectorRoy Shapira is ensuring that everything is done according to the Petrograd vision and keeping the quality standard set high. We like to show you what we work on rather than just tell you, so check out some of the cool stuff we’ve been working on below.

First Person Arms Model
The protagonist in Petrograd is a Black Ops Recon agent equipped with hi-tech gear;
the First Person Arms will include a fully functioning PDA that will integrate to the GUI, along with matching suit, gloves, and pads. Talented team member – 3D Artist Anton Kozlov has been hard at work to create the Protagonist’s arms, he is now texturing them with great care.

Finished HK MK23 mod .0 Pistol Model
The HK MK23 mod .0 is a 0.45 caliber pistol. It was specially designed by H&K with great stopping power, enhanced with unique all weather polymers that ensure excellent accuracy and reliability – a perfect fit for our protagonist. Team member – 3D Artist AJ has created the model, and new team member – 3D ArtistMayan Ariel has textured the excellent model, it is now being rigged and animated by the team.

Ingame Finished Props
The city of Petrograd will be filled with items related to their location, from farming tools in the rural area, to kitchen appliances in the city apartments. The team’s prop modelers are hard at work creating everything from porcelain plates and closets to fully functioning toasters. Shown below are some of the props that are already functioning in-game, the Toaster with medium and fully burnt toasts, retro telephone and a scientific PDA. These models where created, textured and imported into the engine by team member – 3D Artist Elton Spence, who is now working on a vast array of other props.

Ingame Finished UH-01 Huey Helicopter
Earlier updates featured some finished models of Aircrafts, shown below is a fully functional in-game UH-01 Huey Helicopter. It was created, textured, animated and finally imported in-game by team member – Lead Animator Chris Lau who is now enhancing the textures on the Huey, and animating the rest of Petrograd’s vast array of player-usable vehicles.

Today we bring to you a special treat – an assortment of new wallpapers with the original grunt character (and new guns) all in the atmospheric Petrograd environments.

Roy Shapira is a brilliant game designer, dedicated to the point that you might call him a workaholic.

After single-handedly completing his award-winning Crysis mode “Combat Training”, which took him 9 month of work, he now leads an 18-members game-developing team in order to create “Petrograd” -  a viable independent AAA game by 2009.

In this interview he shows concept pictures and videos, talks about the development process, demonstrates how game design works and gives some advice for novice game designers.

What he doesn’t talk though, is how in the world can you keep a day job, a wife and young kids, and still do a full time job as a developer in your free time. The nocamles team has a suspicion that it involves time travel but we can’t prove anything…

Current Progress Update

We’ve been super busy the past few weeks creating the first trailer for Petrograd. We know a lot of you are anticipating it, and we are taking time to make sure that it is of the highest quality. We finished editing the video last week and we are finishing up the sound and music work this week, so it’s definitely going to be released soon!

Also – thanks so much to everybody who voted for us in the MOTY awards! It is very encouraging to the whole team and we are always glad to get that kind of support from the community. We’ve gotten some requests from people who want to learn more about the project and the team, so we are probably going to try and set up a ModDB Developer Banter podcast sometime after we release the trailer – so be on the lookout for that!

Welcome to today’s update, the Space Cowboys team has been pushing real hard to produce high quality content for the past few months and this week has been no exception, since the last update, the project was voted to the 2nd stage of the “Mod of the Year 2008″ competition hosted by Moddb.com, in todays update we’ll show the final models for the USAS12 Automatic Shotgun, and the Enemy Grunt Solder.

Alot has happened over the past week, since the last update, we passed to the 2nd phase of “Mod of the Year 2008” competition on moddb.com, and have gotten allot of positive feedback from the community. This is all extremely exciting for our entire team, and we have been more motivated then ever, the Trailer is coming along very nice and will be up by the end of this week.

and now for the more ”visual” part of the update.

Final USAS12 Automatic Shotgun

The USAS12 is an Automatic Shotgun firing a wide variety of ammunitions from armor piercing, anti-personnel, to anti vehicle mini-rockets. The USAS12 was modeled and textured by team member – Weapons and Prop Modeler - Mark Ashton, it is now being rigged and animated by team member – Modeler Animator Rigger Chris Lau Below are shown the finished Model screenshots.

Final Grunt Soldier

The Grunt will make the bulk of the enemy forces, they will carries light armor, and equipment, the Grunt Soldier model is created by team member – Character Modeler Anton Kozlov under the Creative Direction of team lead – Game Designer Roy Shapira.

Welcome to today’s update of the Petrograd Project. Over the past few weeks we have been working extremely hard; today’s update will show some of the excellent vehicles that are in the making, and an update on the USAS12 Automatic Shotgun Model. Your comments are extremely important for us, so don’t hold back, and post what you think.

USAS12 Automatic Shotgun

The USAS12 is an Automatic Shotgun firing a wide variety of ammunition including armor piercing, anti-personnel, and anti-vehicle mini-rockets. The USAS12 model by team member Mark Ashton
who is now texturing it. Shown below are screenshots of the finished Model.

Aircraft Vehicles

Today we have a special treat; team member – 3D Modeler Chris Lau has been hard at work creating and optimizing several aircraft models and reading them for the game. Today we’ll show off some of his work, including the UH1H Huey II chopper, the Mig21 Fishbed Fighter jet, and the Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter.

UH1H Huey II
The UH1H Huey II is one of the most used personnel carrier in service, it has been widely used in most warfare situations in many combat arenas.  The model was created and optimized by team member Chris Lau and is now being rigged and animated.

Mig21 Fishbed
The Mig21 Fishbed is consider the cannon fodder for the Russian air-force making the first wave of air combat. It is a small and maneuverable multi-purpose fighter able to carry many types of payloads – from Iron bombs to guided missiles. It is usually used against ground targets and to wear down enemy Anti-Aircraft. The model was created by team member – 3D Modeler Chris Lau, who is now rigging and animating it.

Mi24 Hind
The Mi-24 Hind is the main assault helicopter for the Russian air-force. It is a huge beast, able to carry a heavy payload and a squad of foot-soldiers. The model was created by Chris Lau and is now being rigged and animated.
